Womens Liberation Movement

Ladies, it's time for a change. I've known it for some time, and I resisted (I AM a man after all). Seriously though, after watching women being consistently underserved in the fitness/wellness space, I knew that I owed the amazing clients that walk through my (internet) door something much better. There were 3 main problems I saw in terms of how the industry treats women in coach/client relationships. 

  1. We were objectifying women at every turn. Telling women what they need to look like in order to be healthy was just as dumb as it was scientifically inaccurate. Multiple studies have shown that it's not size, but conditioning and movement that lead to optimal health. Yes, the Healthy At Every Size (HAES) camp seems to actually be on to something. Health comes in different bodies, not just one type. Knowing that, as a professional, I can't go around encouraging women to "shrink for their health."

  2. Unfortunately, because of bullet point number one up there, some people began JUDGING women for wanting to lose body fat. Yes, some humans judge women because they want their bodies to look a certain way. The problem here is that this completely tries to take away the autonomy and agency a woman has in regards to her own body. From my perspective, this was equally problematic. No person has the right to tell a woman what she can or cannot do with her body.

  3. There is minimal research on women and the intersection of fitness and wellness. We estimate that about 70% of all fitness research is conducted on men. And of that small amount of research, most coaches don't even study it. It's not that mainstream so you have to search it out and dive into it. What does that mean? Good luck hitting your goals as you travel through pre, peri, and post-menopause. Experience a little leakage while doing burpees? You can't tell your coach that, because (a) He doesn't understand and (B) we don't discuss "such things."

Absolutely no beating the crap out of your body by doing workouts based on research from studying men. Definitely no 1-1.5 hour training session to compromise your hormonal profile and drive your appetite sky high. We're going to initially work with the minimum effective dose of exercise because you probably have an actual life. But importantly, we honor your CHOICE. Want to build muscle? Let's go. Want to lose weight? Absolutely fine. I'm here to support YOUR goals with science and support. I'm not here to tell you what your goal needs to be, from my perspective.
